Jay "Boogie" Brantley was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, minutes from the vaunted Venice Beach Courts. He has played on every level of organized basketball (high school, college, and professional) and even teamed up with the infamous And 1 streetball team.

Through all of his experiences, Jay realized that he could make a difference in people's lives through the medium of basketball. In his quest to help others, Jay founded the community outreach program entitled The Running J's. Jay felt there was a need to enrich the lives of youth everywhere by instilling confidence and self-awareness through playing the sport of basketball. It was also due to these experiences that Jay realized the need for a streetball team that not only thrilled crowds on the court, but off it as well. It was this inspiration that led to the founding of Hoop Stars.
